We experience thought poisoning in so many ways in our world today. It can come from the news, social media, and other people’s words. But it can also come from ourselves in the form of negative words and negative thoughts. This can affect us in numerous ways: feelings of sadness or depression, headaches and migraines, health-related problems, relationship challenges, hostility, anxiety, moodiness, limited thinking, feeling negative about ourselves and others, decreased motivation, and many more.
Food poisoning is a challenging issue as well. Medical advice suggests things like: fluids, herbs (pills) and vitamins when you have experienced food poisoning. So I decided to use the ways of dealing with food poisoning as a similar way of dealing spiritually with thought poisoning.
“It is the thought-life that pollutes.” (Mark 7:20, LB)
Take in Fluids
- Jesus is our Living water (your spiritual fluid)
- Think about him, so you can flush out your poisonous thoughts
- Move from toxic thoughts into God’s presence, experiencing his peace
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” (Col 3:15)
Take Herbs (or a Pill ) to Combat Food Poisoning
- Allow God to be the one that combats your ‘thought poisoning’
- Be vulnerable, open and honest as you talk to God
- Repent to God for any of the thoughts or actions that are not helpful or God-like
- Surrender your toxic thoughts to God
Take Vitamins, Probiotics and Eat some Light food
- Restore your strength by taking in God’s Words as your spiritual food
- Speak scriptures out loud If you want to see your life change, speak the Word of God over yourself.
“So then faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom. 10:17)
- Memorize helpful scriptures so you bring balance back to your mind
- Rebalance your mind and heart by speaking words of gratitude
” I will thank the Lord with all my heart.” (Psalm 9:1, CSB)
- I know that habits are hard to break. But God….He has the answer.
“Now stay focused on Jesus, who designed and perfected your faith”. (Hebrews 12:2, Voice)
